I was just thinking about George. I'm finding it to be very regal and stately, which conflicts with me also thinking it's kind of doofy.
I'm loving it in the combo George William Lovells. Or George William, if you prefer (I actually like that as a double first name too). Lovells is just a town of significance to me, and I wanted to try it out in a combo.
I kind of like the nickname Geordie. I know a guy my age who goes by Geordie (he's actually the only George I know, I think). On a little boy I think Georgie would be cute too.
What do you think of George? Do you know any and what are their ages? Do they go by any nicknames?
My other favorite combos are George Meirion and George Francis. What do you think of my combos? Any other good combo ideas?

I understand your inner conflict with this name.
The first George I knew was in high school. He went by Geordy. I do like that nickname and it worked well for him.
Today I know one George who is 21 and just goes by George. He is really proud of his name though because he's the IV (and he uses the suffix whenever possible).
The other George that comes to mind right away is in his 50's and he hates his name so much that he uses his middle name, Zachery, for everything. I think George Zachery is a pretty good combo though.
So there's some more conflict for you.

I love George. I personally love the name George Emerson. That was my great uncle's name.

Of course I am biased, but I adore George. It's a loveable kind of name. Serious and silly at the same time.

Geordie - how English!
I'm a complete fan of George. There have been so many wonderful bearers of the name that I love to see it on a child. Then again, I may be biased for it!
My all time favourite combination has to be William George and - of all the coincidences - my boyfriend's surname is Lovell so our future son would be: William George Lovell. Pretty dang close!
Other than famous Georges I don't know too many. My grandfather (mid 60s) and a great-uncle (early 60s) have the name. I also know an 18-year-old George, a 50-something George and a 2-year-old George. It translates well across ages IMO but does seem more popular with older men. Strangely enough, Georgia/Georgina/Georgiana in my experience tends to be more popular amongst younger people like myself.

I love George. Like you, its mixture of stateliness and goofiness is irresistable. It is at once a king and the old guy next door who tells you to get off his lawn. Geordie is a neat nn.

I really like George. It's another one of those names that will probably always be somewhat in style and never drop completely off the charts. Georgie / Geordie are nice nicknames for a little boy, but it's obviously something he will grow out of around age 8 or 9. My step-nephew Jeffery insists on being Jeff now (he's 10). Anyways, I actually like Geordie a little more though, it seems more masculine and it's not as common as Georgie.
I love your combos! George Meirion is fantastic and it fits with your other favorite names. Francis is great as well, I love Francis (on both genders) but it's especially nice to see it on a boy.
ETA: Btw, I've only met one George. Unfortunately he goes by Austin :(

I adore George, but I love the nicknames Georgie and George on a girl so much that I don't know if I could use it on a boy! I do not know a single George.
And I totally get your conflicting regal/doofus feelings about the name - I have the same ones! It's such a complicated name in its simplicity. I love it because it has such a friendly sound to it.
