[Facts] Axel
Title of book: Axel's Castle by Wilson on James Joyce. Why is the name Axel referred to and what is the symbolic significance of the name?
Is there a mythological character named Axel. What is his story?
Does Joyce have a character named Axel? Anything about the name would help me in writing my book about the captain of the Exodus, (alias Axel).

Axel is the Scandinavian form of the Absalom. In the Bible (2 Samuel), Absalom was the 3rd son of King David who rebelled against his father and was killed fleeing when his hair was caught in an oak tree, much to his father's grief. The probable meaning of Absalom is 'father of peace'.Joyce bores me to tears so any research there you're on your own ;o)Devon
