Laurence is nice enough, but I prefer Lawrence.
Laurence isn't all that formal...I can imagine a precocious little boy named Laurence, a quiet teenager named Laurence and a successful businessman named Laurence.
I like Lauren / Lawren, but I'm afraid that's too feminine with Lauren being such a popular name on girls. As Wordsmith mentioned, Laurie's a good nickname.
