[Opinions] Margaret
I've been thinking about Margaret lately. I'm not sold on it on its own - it's never really been my style and I've always found it somewhat dated, though I think it's too classic to ever be truly dated. However, I adore both Margot and Greta, and looking at them side by side made me wonder...why don't I like Margaret, too? Or why don't I at least think about it from time to time? Margaret's versatility is definitely appealing to me right now.Anyway, what do you think of Margaret? And what do you think of her nicknames (particularly Margot and Greta, though I've actually noticed that I like a lot of Margaret's nns)?Alternatively, what about Margareta? I think this might appeal a bit more to my tastes.

I came to love Margaret through a movie called Tart. One of the characters was nicknamed "Perfect Party Peg"- of which I became jealous- and since I hate nicknames as names, I thought I'd rename myself Margaret in the hopes of being nicknamed for my party throwing skills. Yeah. Silly. =)I also really like Mamie (makes me think of Auntie Mame, the coolest guardian ever), and Maisie on a little sprite of a girl.I don't like Margareta. The extra letter bothers me. A minor peeve.Margot is nice, though. Pretty.

I love Margaret. I also see it as a timeless classic. I like Maggie and maybe Meg best as nicknames for Margaret. Margot is ok, but not really my style. I also adore Margareta. It was my great-great-great-grandmother's name and I would be more likely to use that form (I also have two Margarets in the family). I love Greta as a nickname, moreso for that than for Margaret, however I like it for both.

I love Margaret and love/like quite a few of its nicknames...Meg, Mae/May, Greta, Maisie, Daisy, Maret, Mara, etc. (However, I really dislike Maggie.)I also like (sometimes love) Margareta.I've never been able to get into Margot, though. Neither the sound nor the look of it appeal to me at all.

Margaret is a nice classic name but overly popular like Elizabeth or Katherine. I love the name Mary Margaret!!!

I like Margaret a lot. I like it for the same reasons I like a lot of other classic names like Elizabeth and Alexandra- besides the obvious history and timelessness, they have an amazing amount of nickname options which means the name will serve the person really well throughout their life.Margaret was my great-grandmother's name and it is a name I will probably consider the mn position for a daughter one day. But as a fn, I prefer Marguerite which is my youngest sister's name (she was named for my great-grandma). She is Marguerite Siena Catherine but we call her Daisy. I imagine once she is older, she will prefer to go by Marguerite or one of the many other nicknames. My favourite Margaret nn is Maggie. I like Maggie is cute and spunky. I really am not much a of a Greta fan, but I don't mind Margot. I prefer Margaret to Margareta. Margareta is a little frilly and sounds like the pizza topping (marguerita).

I really like how there is a lot that you can do with Margaret and there is a nickname to fit almost anyone.
My favorite nicknames are Peggy, Rita, and Margot (or Margaux). They all sound sweet, youthful and energetic. Maggie is nice, but a bit too common. Meg is okay too, but somehow it's not Margarety enough for me. Marge isn't as nice.
Margareta is okay, but my favorite Margaret variant is probably Marguerite.

I love Margaret. It's so dignified and classic--I've used it as a mn for Emily. I think that the nickname Margot is stunning and Greta is nice enough. If you're worried about it being dated, Maggie's a rather youthful nickname. Just stay away from Peggy: it's very old-ladyish and doesn't sound or look very appealing, quite different from the lovely, queenly Margaret. Margareta is also a lovely name, and less common than Margaret.

Margaret is nice. My Aunt's name is Margaret. When I was young I couldn't say it and I called her Aunt Margie (why I'm telling you this, I have no idea).Margaret is a name that I respect, but I don't really love it. Margareta is ok, though I prefer Margarita. Margot and Greta are both names that I love (though I hate how Greta is becoming more popular).

Love Margaret. She's in my top 5. Margaret is a great classic but not overly common like Katherine or Elizabeth. I love Margot on her own as well. My favorite NN for Margaret is Etta. I don't like Margareta. Never seen it.
