[Opinions] Re: Océane
in reply to a message by Lily8
Océane has always seemed a bit tacky and contrived to my non-French ears. Contrived in the way as if someone went and thought, "Have to make up a name with 'ocean' in it, have to make up a name with 'ocean' in it!" While it is a legit name, I just can't shake that thought.I'm not sure how much the trendy thing would be a problem. Outside of France, people would probably think it's a normal or classic French name. I don't know if you plan to live in France one day, but if you do, yeah, you might want to consider what associations it will have and whether it will sound dated.I don't think Océane and August go terribly well together because Océane has a very feminine touch and August just seems so masculine to me (I know it doesn't to you). Océane and Augusta would be very nice, though. Out of Oceana, Ocean and Océane, I prefer Océane. Oceana would be nice, too, but I don't know how to pronounce it. English, French? Or something else?
