Which name do you prefer and why?

I prefer Margaret because that form has been used in my family more than once and also because Marguerite doesn't really suit my heritage. I do really like both though.

Marguerite
Though I am biased, it is my sister's name. I find it more 'special' than Margaret. Margaret is strong and classic but it still has that common feel to me even though it isn't popular anymore. You know, it was so widely used for so long that it still feels like it is just a usual name. Marguerite is a little more special. It is a little more flowery and girly but still strong and has a definite presence about it.

Hmm. I do love them both. Both of them would work magically with my last name. I think in the end I'd go with Margaret. It's more understated.

Probably Margaret because I'm not wild about the 'reet' of Marguerite.

When I think of Marguerite, I think of the stepsister in Ever After. ALthough she isn't that nice of a character, I do now think that the name is pretty. It's not quite Margarita, which would earn a kid a few alchohol-related jokes, but it does sounds upper-class to my ear--as if Marguerite should be having tea with Georgiana, Artemis, Clementine and Jane. Maggie is a now-cute nn that works with both, but Margaret does have the benefit of the nn Greta. If one chose Marguerite, I would only wish that they wouldn't use the nn Rita, which doesn't really do anything for me. Both are pretty names.

I like both but prefer Marguerite, which some people nn Daisy.

Marguerite is okay, but I think it's friller/fussier and that drains away some of the strength of the name for me. I love the brisk, strong, no-nonsense feel of Margaret.

Ooh! I love them both. Margaret is a little more practical though (at least if your in the U.S. like I am) although Marguerite would be refreshing. I still just prefer Margaret for its classic feel.

Margaret!
It's been my favorite name pretty much forever. It's so beautiful sounding and looking, strong but feminine at the same time, and it makes me think of a girl who's intelligent, sweet, sophisticated, shy or outgoing, perhaps musical or artsy, or perhaps likes science or math. It seems good for anyone, really. We're going to use it for our first daughter.
Marguerite is nice too, but there really just isn't a name out there that can top Margaret for me. :)

Both are strong, classic, feminine names. I think they both have their merits. The deciding factor would have to be what it's paired with and how well it flowed.
