I think of Ada belonging to a very sweet, quiet, brown haired girl, maybe even a little old fashioned. I think of Clara in a similar way but with a bit more spirit. They would make a fabulous sibset, though.

I have associations for both, so Ada makes me think of Ada McGrath from The Piano: a serious, dark-haired woman whose passions run deep. Clara makes me think of The Nutcracker. It's a daintier name, perhaps blonde, blue-eyed, and sweet. Not what you're asking, but I love both names, especially Ada. I don't get why it's not more popular than it is. With names like Ava and Jada near the top of the charts, Ada seems like it should be a huge hit, but it's not. Undiscovered gem, I guess.

I don't know if you mean them this way, but awwwwww! Ada and Clara would be adorable for sisters.Anyway, I love them both. Ada has such a gentle, sweet, Southern Belle feel. And Clara does too, although it's a little stronger and is more pioneer girl.

Ada: my first kindergarten teacher was called this.Clara: my aunt has a friend called this.Overall, they give a slightly "old-ladyish" vibe, but not necessarily in a bad way. I personally prefer Clara to Ada, Ada's a bit short for my taste.

Ada - old-fashioned clumpy name; image of woman around 1890 with bucket, rolled sleeves, harassed expression, scrubbing step.
Clara - elegant name, Victorian but timeless: image of swan-necked girl in crinoline practising piano scales.

Ada makes me think of my daughter. Smart, silly, stubborn as hell.
Clara makes me think of an episode of Star Trek.

When I hear Ada, I think of a bright-eyed girl with long, brown hair done up in braids. When I hear Clara, I think of an old woman. Probably because it was my great-grandmother's name.
