[Surname] Italian Surname
I have a question about the surname "Pisciotti". The only thing I know about it is that it is Italian. I've never met anyone with the last name outside of family members, and nobody knows anything about it. I guess I was just wondering if anyone on here knows anything or anyone with the last name Pisciotti?

Pisciotti is one of many surnames derived from pesce 'fish'. It's the nickname of a fisherman or fishmonger. You'll find its distribution in the US at http://www.gens-us.net/map/genera.html?cognome=PISCIOTTI and the names and addresses of people with that name at http://tr.im/i7rF
This surname is now quite rare in Italy. you can find it mainly in Calabria region or around Naples.
In southern italian dialects the word for fish has quite often been "pisci" or "pisce" so this surname has only partially italianized.

Pisciotti is a rare Italian surname and, also because of its rarity, it is very hard to interpret.
A possible interpretation considers Pisciotti as a variant of Pisciotta, probably coming from a place named Pisciotta in Salerno province (Campania, Southern Italy): for more information about Pisciotta, you can see http://www.ancestry.myfamily.com/facts/Pisciotta-family-history.ashx - though I personally think some of the interpretations reported on that page just sound like 'folk etymology'.
