[Opinions] Wow! A celeb with good taste!
I just found out that Judd Apatow (writer of Freaks & Geeks, Knocked Up, The 40 Year Old Virgin, etc) and his wife, Leslie Mann, have two daughters named Maude and Iris. Both are favorites of mine and I totally love them as a sibset! I've always been a huge fan of Apatow, but is it wrong that I like him even more now that I know we have the same taste in names? Hah...so, wdyto Maude and Iris?

I dislike like Maude. I just never liked the sound of it. I love Iris though.

I adore themThe girls themselves are also pretty darn cute (they were in "Knocked Up"). Iris is a personal fave. Maude has grown on me a lot. I used to only associate it with the Bea Arthur character, but I now (moreso) associate it with the character from the book/movie "Possession" (I think it might be Maud, though...I still prefer Maude).

Iris I like, Maude, no.

I have the sweetest great-aunt who bears the name Maude, and I love it because it reminds me of her. I also love Iris, so pure & refreshing, makes me think of spring.

I like them together. If it were me, I'd spell it Maud. Love.

I think they're horrible.I never thought Maude OR Iris were beautiful names. They are old, frumpy, and a shame to see on such cute little girls.

They make a really cute sibset, I think, but I don't like Maude all that much. Iris is adorable, though.

lovely names

hahah Maude always makes me laugh, my dad always watches the movie Harold and Maude so the name remindes me of him! But i dont really like the name Maude. Iris is great though! For celebs they are good names!

I love both names, and the sibset is great!

Does ANYONE besides me hate Maud(e)?!I cannot STAND the names Maud or Maude. They're frumpy, clunky, and I always think "Maud the Fraud." Am I the only one here who thinks this?!Iris, on the other hand, is lovely and classy. Two thumbs up.

Thank you!Sometimes I feel like the only person on here who doesn't love just any old ancient name. Some are ugly. This is one of them.

Yes!I think Maud(e) is horrible. It's ugly, clunky, downtrodden and...ew. Iris, however, is really lovely.

Maud sound like the German word for "murder" so I dislike it

I agree.I feel likewise about Anneliese and Beatrice, as a matter of interest. To me they--along with Maude--sound like a derelict living room set with moldering upholstery and yellowed doilies. No kidding.

I dislike Maude also but Iris is no better. I hate the eye sound
vote up2
I avoid thatby using the Hebrew pronunciation ee-REES. I think it's even lovelier than EYE-riss, although I do like that as well.

Couldn't agree more!Maud and Maude just sound frumpy, old-fashioned and clunkyto me and Iris is absolutely lovely, fresh and interesting.

I dislike both of them, but I don't take issue with Maud(e) quite the way I do with, say, Abigail.

ditto, I know heaps of women named Iris in their 40s, too early for a comeback
vote up2
A bit too early, yes.I guess it's coming back a bit now because Lily and other flower names are big... but haven't flower names always been big? Another couple decades and I'll be ready for Iris.

Me tooMaude is hideous.

Me, me!I agree with what you said. And there's nothing pleasant-sounding about it whatsoever. I like Iris, though.

I love Maude and Iris!

I adore both names! Esp. Maud! What wonderful sibset! I like him even better now, lol!

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I think Maude is growing on me. Maude and Iris is a really cute sibset.

Oh I love Maud/ Maude. So steely sweet & tiny. Iris is really lovely and together they're a fantastic sib set. Really awesome. I'm not a major fan of his but he's got great taste (either in picking those names or allowing them to be picked). :)

I love Maude. ♥ Iris is too popular on this board for me to care about it at all. It's boring to me, but still great when used in the real world. Good set no matter what.

I love both names, individually and as sisters.

I LOVE FREAKS AND GEEKS!!!!Punctuation pets volunteered. We watched it in my Pre-AP English class in 10th grade whenever the teacher (age 28, if it explains anything) got bored. (This is the same man who ran out of time and so did the Julius Caesar Rap the day of finals.)I hate the name Iris... Maude isn't a favorite either. But for a celeb with rapidly declining taste (from Freaks and Geeks to Knocked Up!), it's pretty good.

I like Iris; Maud is tough for me to appreciate.

Gorgeous sibset!!

What lovely names, esp. coming from a celeb! Finally one who doesn't see naming their kid as a publicity stunt.

Surprising for someone who makes such juvenile movies.I can't stand Judd Apatow's stuff.Neither name I particularly like, but they're super fantabulous compared to Blakesley.

I love Iris.

Maude is horrible. Iris is better, but I still don't like it.

Love it! They make a great sibset, although I far more keen on Iris than I am on Maude.

I think they're lovely together. I love Iris and Maude is fresh.
