I've loved Mimi for years. I even considered it for a dd, but only as a nn for Marie. Mimi is so cute.I know an adult Mimi. Her formal name is Mary.Mimi could easily be a nn for Miriam, Maria. A mimosa is an alcoholic drink, so I'm not big on that one for a formal name.Others you might like:Emily / Emilia / Amelia

OT: MyfanwyI'm curious about the 'vawn' part of Myfanwy - would you pronounce it like 'vahn' or like Vaughan?

Yes, I would pronounce them the same way. In Welsh, an "f" is pronounced like a "v" in English, and the "a" is more like an "ah" sound.

I was just wondering because "vahn" and "vawn"/"Vaughan" sound very different to me.
My lab tutor's name is Myfanwy - in English it tends to be pronounced "me-VAN-we" but in Welsh it's more like "me-VAHN-we".

Huh. I pronounce "vahn," "vawn" and Vaughn exactly alike. I live on the West coast of the U.S. Where are you from? Just curious. :-)

The UK. I live in Manchester, my lab tutor is from Wales (can tell by her accent!).

Mimosa. I love that name I didn't know about the drink until someone posted it here, I just think it's a nice floral / plant name.

Model Elle McPhersons younger sisters name is Mimi McPherson. I personally dont like it as a first name but would be nice as a nn for Miriam.

I love Mimi. It also can be used for Artemisia. I mean nn for this name.

I went to school with a girl everyone called Mimi. It turned out her real name was Emily and last year I had an instructor in statistical analysis called Mimmi and that was her real, full name.

I think it is insubstantial on its own, it is best as a nn. Pretty much anything derived from Mariamne/Miriam would work.
Meital, Melia, Meredith, Mia, Milena, Minerva, Mireia, Amelia, Emilia, Melisande, Amina, Hermina, Wilhelmina, Yasmina, Myfanwy.. ?

I guess it could, but I think that I would rather have a more serious name to fall back on. I've only known one person occasionally called Mimi, and her given name is Mireille. She's almost 5 now.*On a side note, a lot of grandmothers (my mother included) are called Mimi.ETA: I LOVE Miriam!

I knew a 40-something Mimi in Australia - real name Margaret Mary
I love Mimi as a nn for Miriam but prefer Miri (which is used in Israel as a name in its own right nowadays).
