[Facts] english translation
My fiancee's grandfather's name is Eloi, which is a Portugese from of the latin Eligius, meaning "selection" or "to choose." Does anyone know if there is an english form of this name?

I think Eligius is as near as you're going to get to an english version. You could go for Eligian, like Julius -> Julian, but I've never seen that in use and it doesn't look much more english anyway. Sorry.

Julian doesn't come from Julius, but from Julianus.

Yes Lumia you are very correct. Although I didn't say it came directly. I was just suggesting a general idea.

There doesn't seem to be. In English you could just use Eligius. It would work fine.
