I really like Katya. My reasons against Katia: it looks like it's three syllables, and is in more danger of being called Katie.

I agree - Katya or Katja seem to be the best choices. Katia is also nice, but I also think that it would be likely to received a more Anglicized pronunciation...KA-sha even...although I know it shouldn't. AT least ppl would be more likely to ask how it is pronounced than to just mispronounce it as I think they would with Katia

Well, the only spelling I like is Katja, but out of those two, I'd take Katya. Katia always makes me want to pronounce it kah-TEE-ah.
