I don't at all consider them the same name. Loren is masculine and Lauren is feminine. When I see Loren, I picture a man. When I see Lauren, I picture a woman.
I can't say I prefer one over the other because I don't consider them different spellings of the same name, but rather different names. I don't like either one of them enough to use.
