[Opinions] Antigone
I'm really loving the name Antigone right now. I think it's beautiful, but others don't share my enthusiasm, because of the myth. Is Antigone too tied up with the story to use? I really don't mind the story, but if it's all people can think of, then I probably wouldn't use the name. Anyway, I like mythological names, and names that have history. Can you think of any good combos with Antigone?

I like the name Antigone. I don't think most people are familiar with the myth, the main problem being that they'd pronounce it "anti gone".
I would only use it as a middle name.

Yes. It really is way too tied up with the story. Especially considering that the Antigone in the story is not a great association (her character was admirable, but she met a rather sticky end), I'd keep it as a guilty pleasure. Also, in English-speaking countries, it will be pronounced like anti-gone.

I like it. I think the story is a good association; I'd rather be named after her than Ismene.
I like Antigone Thalia- even though it's a bit too heavy on the Greek mythology to use.
I'm not thinking of many combos right now, but Niamh or Neve would be good. I also thought of Ruth, but that's al litttle boring. I think it would work well with some Welsh names, but I can't think of any good ones at the moment :)

A lot of people around here (Indiana, USA) don't really know any greek myths other than what they've seen in movies. It's a shame really. As for myself, when I here a name, I tend to think of the merits of the name itself and I don't really associate it with the myth. I love Antigone! Persephone too, while we're at it.

I looooove Antigone!! I don't know the story. The only think I dislike about the name is the spelling but not enough for me not to use it. I added it to my long list a long time ago in the combo Antigone Thalia. I never loved it and never gotten around to finding a new MN for it. I named my catus plant, Antigone. I figure the chances of a future DH letting me use the name is slim. Lol. How bout Antigone Claire
Antigone Louise
Antigone Maeve
Antigone Faye
Antigone Violet
