I like it, but I do think its a bit much. I would use it as a middle name only
I love Bartholomew. It has history knit into its DNA. I love names with a historic feeling. Nns Bart and Tolly are cute if he doesn't want a four syllable fn. A similar name that you might also like is Bartimaeus. It's not in the database, but it's definitely a name with history; think "Blind Bartimaeus" from the Bible.
Bartholomew Henry
Bartholomew Piers ("peerce")
Bartholomew Edgar
Bartholomew Stephen
Bartholomew Simon (why does that sound familiar? Is there a Simon Bartholomew somewhere?)
Bartholomew Paul
Bartholomew Angus
Bartholomew Noel ("nohl")
Bartholomew Vincent
Bartholomew Peter
Bartholomew Prosper
Bartholomew George
Bartholomew Miles
Bartholomew Jonas
Sorry for any repeats. Do you like any of these?

I agree with those who said middle name because of Bart. If I were a guy, I would not want to be named Bartholomew. It just seems to me to be overwrought and precious, with the mewling sound at the end. Bart would be inevitable for most men named that.
I don't think it's too much. It's usable as long as you really like it.
I like it. I'm a fan of long beautiful names for men.

Bartholomew August
The only thing I'm not crazy about with this name is the nn Bart.

I quite like Bartholomew nn Tolly, but I think it's better as a middle name.
It's so fussy and grandiose that I adore it.
I don't like it at all, because I hate the MYOO sound at the end. The reason I don't like Matthew, and don't really understand its raging popularity, is that I don't like the similar THYOO sound at the end of it. I wouldn't say Bartholomew is too much to use as a first name, though.
I like it better as a middle name. No chance of being called Bart.
