Actually, I prefer the reverse. I love Katinka as a diminutive of Katja/Katia/Katya. A girl in my favorite Russian novel was named Katia and was sometimes called Katinka as a nickname.

Just use Katja though I prefer Katya. Katinka sounds more like an African tribe's name than a person's name.

I prefer Katja as the full name because to me Katinka is a nn too, so it's silly to have a nickname for a nickname imo, plus Katja is really, really pretty on it's own, and sounds more mature.
