I like it but vastly prefer (and would use) Athanasios which is ethnically Greek so I am not suggesting you use it over Athanasius. I just prefer it.

No, it's a stretch. I prefer Athan and it doesn't rhyme with Nathan either so it seems like even more of a stretch.

I think Nathan would work for a nn, or Nasius or Nas or something, if it was used as a fn.

Athanasius is theoretically cool, but it's too pretentious to actually use. I'd prefer a shorter version, like Athanase, as a mn.

Athan would actually be a fine nn for it if you were actually to use it. Nathan as a nn sounds contrived, so if you like Nathan that much you should just name the kid that.

I love Athanasius (and probably all related forms). It's unusual, but not altogether unknown. I prefer Athan as a nickname and I think Nathan is a bit odd since it has a completely different origin. I think it sounds fine with Charles.

It's my Aunt Athena's father's name. Too lofty for my taste.

Why not just go with Nathan? Athanasius is a little much.

I appreciate Athanasius; however, I think it's more viable as a middle name.
