Sibset: Olive & Apple =)I'm only kidding. And I don't like or support anyone sporting the name Apple.Despite the fact that Olive sounds foody (it does) I still like it.

Lol. Apple is a bit of a GP. So is Plum. For some reason, they feel less foody than Olive, which immediately conveys to me images of martinis, or platters of hors d'oeuvres.

I've always loved the idea of Olive and Hazel. They go together well. :)

Better than Olivia by far and more antique(m)As mainstream as Olivia is, I still find it matronly.I love olive trees and what they symbolise is lovely too. Olive, is simple, sweet and funky and I like it very much. While it's fine to only find it food like (I can understand that) I don't see how olive being a noun (colour, tree and food item) prevents it from being a "name". It's been used as a name for a long time. I haven't heard anything quite so ridiculous I'm sorry. Using that logic would mean many long used noun names would be non names too.

I agree.Olive is a great name. I really can't find fault with it.Sadly, I hate the taste of Olives, so using Olive as a name for a future daughter and then calling her namesake disgusting [which it is to me!] might not work. But it sounds great! :D

I don't like the fruit either. It's nasty!Just say it was for the beautiful tree and what it signifies ;) But, I understand. I don't touch olives myself. Yucky. Although, the oil is fine.

I don't really like it. I think of the fruit and of Olive Oyl.

I love it, but I hate Olivia for some weird reason. I like Olive paired with either a longer feminine name (Olive Alexandra, Olive Thomasina, Olive Tabitha, Olive Paloma, Olive Penelope, Olive Sabrina), or another short old-fashioned name (Olive Hazel, Olive Beatrix, Olive Alice)

I am in love with Olive! If only DH would come around, lol. To me, Olive is earthy and warm. It is also my favorite color. I really haven't thought of combos too much since DH hates it. Here are a few off the top of my head.Olive Rosamund
Olive Eleanor
Olive Miriam
Olive Bernadette
Olive Melisande
Olive VirginiaI really want to put Olive Rosemary, but that's very foodie. =) I do really like it, though.

It's a food, not a name. I think Olivia is prettier.

I love it! Maybe not as a first name, but definitely as a middle name. It definitely has an older feel, but it really hit its popularity peak in the 1920s (in the USA at least). There's not a ton of Olives around... so I don't think it's too old-ladyish anymore. Also, olives are symbolically so important; it's a nice connotation.

I like itI think it more youthful than old lady-ish.
