TwistSeven long years have passed and you find yourself unexpectedly pregnant again. How do you feel?
I feel a bit too old to be doing this again. It was nice to have a break, though! The children?
HA! The same but in a good way. Ellie and Fern I think have grown out of the baby thing but Fern is excited about babysitting if only for the extra income. Your husband?
”I can still DO that?!”
“Honey, you can DO that into your 80’s. I can’t believe that I can still do that.”
You had twins! How surprised were you?
Somewhat. I’ve read where women in their forties have a raised percentage of having twins. Twins don’t run on either side of the family (though it wouldn’t matter if Jon’s family had twins anyway). Jon, the kids and I were pleasantly surprised to have to knew little girls in the family. The Family?
Surprised but happy for us. “Six biological grandchildren from one child, that’s pretty special,” my father in law had said.Your Husband? They look like none of your other children.
”Red hair,” he smiled. “At least now it doesn’t look like we hired an egg donor.”
“Ha. Ha.”
About a year later you and your family go on a vacation. To where? What do you do?
Since we had some free time to go on vacation, we decided to go back home to Colorado for a couple of weeks. This gave the children and our parents an opportunity to spend time together. Hiking, kayaking, camping – the usual for Jon and I “back in the day.” During the vacation you leave your children and go to another country to adopt 2 young children. Where are they from?
The vacation to Colorado was a stepping stone for Jon and I. We were going to Russia to adopt two biological brothers, Adrik and Nikolai. The children would stay with Jon’s parents while we settled things in Russia and back at home in Italy. The plan was to get Adrik and Nik a chance to be accustomed to their new home and surroundings before we had a houseful again. The children would fly home in three weeks time. Adrik and Nikolai were given Russian names by their mother but we decided to give them a third name to honor Jon.Why did you adopt?
Jon and I had been researching adoption before we found out I was pregnant with the twins, Laney and Teem. We were already prepped to with the “go-ahead” to adopt these two boys but had to take a hiatus due to me giving birth. They were in an orphanage and, well, needed a home. Our hearts went out to them and Jon and I knew that it was fate that we happened upon them and their story. And what do they look like?
Adrik Fyodor Jonathan “AJ” has dark brown, wavy hair and green eyes. Nikolai Gregori David “Nik” has light brown, wavy hair and green eyes. AJ has a slim build while Nik is stocky. Soon you return home. About 2 years later (10 years since last round) there is a very bad snowstorm and you get trapped in your home for 3 weeks. How did you survive?
The meteorologist warned everyone that this was going to happen. Jon and I, growing up in snowy Colorado, knew how to stock up the pantry and find activities for long days and nights stuck in one place. We made sure we had plenty of batteries, food, flashlights, heat and games to keep everyone happy. We had no idea it was going to last almost a month. We longed for eggs (of all things) and fresh fruit and vegetables. Canned green beans wasn’t cutting it anymore. The kids, especially the older ones, grew tired of the same board and card games and squabbles were quick to break out amongst them. The snow finally melted and Donnie had said he was ready to move out. Should the next round be a grandkid round?
Hmmm… I dunno?
