[Opinions] Patience
Recently i was discussing names with one of my best male friends and when i mentioned Patience he said it was a 'hooker name' in line with names such as Destiny and Desire. I never thought this was so, i always thought Patience was an old-fashioned name, puritan-like.
What are you opinions, Hooker or puritan? Also what is your opinion in general of the name PatienceThank YouAlso my friend wants a daughter named Ebony-Rose, surely this would be classed as a 'hooker-name' more so than Patience

Puritan definitely, very old-fashioned, but in a nice way. Much nicer than Ebony-Rose.

I don't see it as a hooker name at all. In fact it's about the furthest you can get from hooker in my mind, which is Puritan. Very Puritan. I have recently been falling in love with Patience, though.I think the main difference is that "patience" is not something I attribute to lust or hedonism :S Names like Desire, Destiny, Diamond, and Candy can all have associations that are either sexual or materialistic, but Patience is like.. the opposite of those things. As an aside, I don't find Ebony-Rose stripperish, though I do find it slightly tacky.

I've never thought of Patience as a hooker name. I used to know a Patience and she definitely wasn't a hooker or stripper. The name is definitely more Puritan. I don't care for overly puritanical names, but I like Patience. It's a name that works well for religious and non-religious people alike.

Your friend seems slightly confused.Virtue names such as Patience are DEFINITELY not hooker names.Ebony-Rose, however, would be *perfect* for a stripper.

It's defintely not hooker! It's Puritan and it's not bad, though I probably wouldn't use it.

No way is it hooker. I honest to God think that guys just say this when they don't like a name because they can't think of any other way to explain their dislike. Like my former next-door neighbor who vetoed Autumn because it was supposedly "hooker", then approved Heather. How the heck is Autumn any more "hooker" than Heather?I like Patience. It's pretty.

I don't see how Patience is a hooker name at all. Not even borderline, it sounds so Puritan. I don't know, it's been growing on me a lot, I like the way it sounds, though it's such a soft name it needs something stronger to tag with it. I don't think Ebony-Rose would be so much a hooker name though I'd think it'd be more so than Patience. Ebony-Rose has a lot more leg room to swing either way. Patience? Nah.

I really don't like Patience. I'm not a big fan of virtue names in general, and what if little Patience throws a tantrum in a public place or whines a lot? The name would sound ridiculous, then.I don't think Ebony-Rose is a hooker name, but it IS tacky.

Okay, well I hesitate to call it a "hooker-name" as I don't want to offend anyone with this name. It really depends on what the person is like. As of right now, I do sort of see Patience as being a "hooker-name" but I know if I met someone who was very far from that, it would change my opinion of the name greatly. As far as Ebony-Rose goes, I think it would be fine if Ebony was the first name and Rose was the middle name. I dislike the hyphen.
