Help[Opinions] Mercy
What do you think of Mercy for a girl? Do you think it might enter the top 1000 now that Madonna adopted a little girl named Mercy? Do you prefer it as a first or a middle name? What would you pair it with? Do you know someone named Mercy? Does the name have religious associations to you? Would the parents of a Mercy be religious, in your opinion?
I kind of like it paired with biblical names:

There's always Marcy, which is close and doesn't have any associations as far as I know.

I adore Mercy :-)
It was very nearly my youngest sister's name. She was going to be Marguerite or Mercy. I don't think it will make the top 1000 in a hurry. It doesn't really fit any current trends well enough for the celebrity power to propel it and Madonna's kids aren't the most high profile in Hollywood. Lourdes never jumped massively because of Madonna. I like it in either the fn or mn position.
My Dad and his partner had the combo Mercy Primrose picked out for awhile and I really loved that. A few favourites of mine have always been Mercy Clementine, Susannah Mercy and Mercy Avigail.
It doesn't have religious associations to me. I would consider it as a fn or mn for a child of mine and I am an atheist. I think Mercy is a virtue that one should aspire to, religious or not.

I feel like it could go towards an ultra-religious "I'll call her Anna Mercy" feel or a "I want to give my daughter a really cool name so I'll call her Mercy Sage" feel. I can see the religious side, Our Lady of Mercy, comes to mind but I still wouldn't use it. I wouldn't mind seeing it on other people, seems a little out there for a little girl though.

Not what I would call a name for anyone, boy or girl. I find it so boring, as well as quite sad. I would feel sorry for anyone with the name of Mercy.

I could see it going into the top 1000 soon. I don't really have too many relligious associations with it, but I can see why it would. (it does have a slight Puritan feel to it). I've only known one Mercy, so I haven't seen it much.

I think it is the most defeated name I've ever heard. . It's so sad on a girl. Who would want that virtue? It's a very desperate word used when people are at the end of their rope.

I'm not particularly religious and I would use it. I don't think of religion when I think of the virtue mercy. Judges / juries grant mercy to defendants. Spouses forgive their cheating partners. People forgive people all the time. I don't see why mercy is an exclusively religious concept.
Mercy Hannah is my favorite from your list. It makes me think of a young woman in the American frontier in the 1800's. Mercy Lydia is a close second. Lovely combination.
