[Opinions] Josephine
I am planning on using the name Josephine to honor my mother. Most of the time I like to use honouring names in the middle name slot becuase I don't like kids to live in a shadow. However, would it really be that bad if I used it as a first name considering Jo is my mother's middle name, and I would be using Josephine as a first name? The two wouldn't be confused when people called their name, and Josephine isn't exactly the same as using Jo. Am I making it too complicated?

I like Josephine nn Poppy or Josie, but I would probably use it as a middle.

I heart this name and think it would be fantastic to honour your mother!

I think that this is a good scenario of when things can align perfectly. Since your mother goes by Jo, and you would be using Josephine in full, I imagine, then you get the best of both worlds. Your child can has their own distinctive name without feeling put upon to live up to a name, while the honouring connection is still quite clear. I think you're golden!(And don't feel bad about fretting over this stuff - I am always warring with the issue of honouring-vs.-individuality and which should be more important with my own names!)

And also...(sorry I couldn't just add it to my previous post, but I am not signed in)...would your opinion change if she wasn't to go by Josephine all the time, but would sometimes go by a nickname like Joey or Posey?

Well since your mom's first name is Kelly and not Jo, then I think you are doubly ok with the name being sufficiently honouring and yet not overshadowing, even if she goes by Joey or Josie or something like that. I still think you are good to go!

Well, my mom doesn't actually go by Jo...it just is her middle name and my dad sometimes calls her Kelly Jo (Kelly being her first name). Thanks for you input. It is really good to hear what people think, good or bad because it gets my gears spinning on what I can do to make the situation better or more acceptable generally. Thanks!
