I always find it weird to call a daughter "son of....", because in the end that's what the suffix "-son" means.

It's a surname. Ending in "son". Not remotely feminine, and on hte trendy side.

I, personally, dont like it at all for either gender. If I had to choose I would use it on a boy. If you love it, then go for it, everyone has different tastes.
