[Opinions] Catherine
What do you think of Catherine? Do you know many girls with the name? How do you see it spelled more often, Katherine, Kathryn or Catherine (or another way)? What is your favorite spelling of it and what is your least favorite?I kind of like Catherine with the nickname Cathy. Do you think Cathy is ready for a comeback? But I guess I'd prefer it in its full form.I have a strong feeling that Catherine and variants might leave the top 100 in a few years. Hard to imagine as it has always been in it (one spelling at least) but two spellings (Catherine + Kathryn have left already and Katherine is falling). It seems like many classic that have always been there like Mary and Sarah are losing their appeal. What do you think?Oh and some combos, wdyt?Noah Olivia Catherine
Noah Catherine Olivia
Catherine Marie

I love Catherine, its a nice elegant, timeless name. If Grant's niece wasn't named this I'd consider if for a future daughter (I might consider it as a middle name but spelt Katherine so my sister-in-law doesn't think I've 'stolen' her daughter's name).Catherine or Katherine are my favourite spellings, I prefer Catherine slightly more though. All the other spellings don't look right to me.I cannot stand Cathy/Kathy as a nickname. I don't mind Kate/Cate but I much prefer Kat/Cat or try and convince people to call her Catherine all the time.
Olivia Catherine is nice.

My name is Catherine and I've always loved it. It fits me more than Katherine or Kathryn, and I've met far fewer people with my own name than other variants of it. Of course I've known several other Catherines, but I was always the only one in my class. Nearly all the Katherines/Kathryns I know my age go by Katie, which I know a TON of. I honestly don't see Catherine moving into the top 100 any time soon. People seem pretty happy using the K varieties for now.I've always despised Cathy. I don't mind just 'Cath,' but my preferred nickname (if any, though I generally just go by Catherine) is Kitty.

I love Catherine and consider her vastly superior to Katherine, Kathryn, et alia; unfortunately, I encounter the latter two more often.

My favourite spelling is Catherine. I have known quite a few Catherines, but it's not annoyingly common as it's a name with history - not like the five Kaylees you'll find in any Year One class. My favourite nickname is Kitty. I think that the name will remain somewhat common in future.

It's a great name - lots of history. I have four cousins with the name and two close friends - four Catherines, a Katherine and a Katharine. I also know two Catrins (the Welsh version), a Katrine and a Katrien. I like all of the spellings I've mentioned.Cathy is fine! - much less boring than Kate or Katie right now.I don't know if Catherine will fall out of use, but I suspect that if it does it'll come back eventually, as there are enough famous Catherines to stop it becoming really obscure.

I like it. I can never decide if I prfer it with a C or K. The combos with Noah are cute, I'm not so keen on the others.

I know loads by this name...it's one of the most popular in my German class, and in extension my school. I don't know how often I see that spelling, but I see Katherine quite a bit, all going by various names...I even know one who goes by Kit-Kat because of the alliteration of her first and last name! Catherine is my favorite spelling because it's the variation that most befits a queen. Katherine is trendy because of the K, so that's a turnoff, and Kathryn is nice too although looks like a variant.
Yeah, I like the nickname Cathy too. It makes me think of the song Cathy's Clown, by the Everly Brothers.
Yeah, I know. Names like this are leaving the top 100 all the time now. It's sad because some of these names are absolutely beautiful. Mary? I love Mary! Does this mean that my name, Elizabeth, the most common name of all history will fall out eventually too? My favorite names have long since fallen out; Martha, Dorothy, Edward, Frederick, Lawrence...we are losing our identity here!

Oh I've been thinking about Martha a lot lately. It's really growing on me. I think I'll open a thread in a minute. I love Dorothy as well and I like Edward and Frederick.I'm actually happy they're losing popularity because I love them! But they do need more attention.I think Elizabeth will remain in the top 20 for a while but you never know. I was really surprised to see Rebecca and Rachel fall so quickly as well. Oh and Laura. I can't believe how fast Laura has fallen. Not even in the top 100 anymore.I'll go look up the song now :)

My parents considered naming me Laura. They were going to use the combo Laura Elizabeth, after Laura Ingalls Wilder. However, they decided on Jane Elizabeth, but changed it to Elizabeth Jane when I was a few hours old when my mom called me Janie and didn't like it.
Yeah, Dorothy is what I'd name a second daughter. Edward's my favorite male name of all time, with only Lawrence trailing it. Frederick I got into because of my obsession with the Weasley twins.
You know, Elizabeth maybe a top 10 name, but why is it that I never see it in BAs? I saw a Jane Elizabeth today, but I almost never see an Elizabeth anymore unless she has some really weird nickname.
Yeah, I would like to see THESE names popular and not crappy ones like Madison or Nevaeh. Those names could kick the bucket for all I care.

I love Catherine, but I don't see this spelling often enough. Usually I see the more disappointing Kathryn. I also like Katherine with certain combos, but overall, Catherine.I never much pay attention to popularity charts.

I don't mind Catherine, though I don't like Cathy. As for the combos...Noah is definitely not usable for a girl, in my opinion. But I like Catherine Olivia.

I definitely prefer Katharine/Katherine, the C spelling has always bugged me. It's probably because my mom's name is Kathleen and that's what I'm used to seeing so any Cath name feels wrong. I do hope to use Katharine some day, so I think it's a very lovely name. The most common spelling I've seen is Katherine and Kathryn though I only know a handful of girls with this name.I really dislike Cathy/Kathy as a nickname. People assume my mom goes by Kathy and sometimes continue calling her by that name after she's told them she goes by Kat. So now the nickname in general just annoys me. It's fine for someone else, but I wouldn't use it. Out of your combos I like Noah Olivia Catherine and Noah Catherine Olivia (I've thought about using Katharine Olivia myself).

Its Ok. My best friend is called Kathryn (spelled this way), but it's not an unusual name but I don't know many. I like the spelling Katharine.
I really like the names Catalina, Katarina, Caitlin, which are all versions of Catherine.
I dislike Kath and Kathy

I love Katherine, but I prefer the K spelling. Katherine is my favorite spelling, and Katharine my least favorite. Even though I prefer the K spelling, I'd still choose Catherine over Katharine, because that A where there should be an E really bugs me.I have only known two women with the name. One was a girl with whom I went to high school, and she spelled it Catherine. The other was a woman with whom I worked, and she spelled it Kathryn. The Catherine in high school went by Cathy, and Kathryn went by her full name.In my generation, Kathleen\Cathleen was much more popular than Katherine\Catherine, so although I have known many Kathys and Cathys, in all but the two examples I listed above, their full names were Kathleen or Cathleen. In fact, Kathleen is the name of both my half-sister and my cousin. Overall, Kathleen seemed more popular than Cathleen.I don't see Cathy on its own will make any kind of comeback. You say that Katherine is falling. It may go the way of Mary. I don't know.

Catherine is my full name, and I love it. I much prefer the "C" spelling, but then again I prefer most names with a C rather than a K (Cristina vs. Kristina, Caitlin vs. Kaitlyn, Cara vs. Kara). I would only use Katherine if I were going to use the nn Kate or Katie. Kathryn is my least favorite spelling.Of your combos I like Catherine Marie. How about:
Catherine Anna
Catherine Juliet
Catherine Helena
Catherine Nora
