As if Carolyn could *possibly* compete with Caroline!

I prefer Caroline. I dislike Carolyn. I like Cara as a nn. :)

I prefer Caroline. It is strong yet feminine. Carolyn sounds a bit too young and sweet for my tastes. Caroline would age much better.

As for nicknames, I really don't think Caroline / Carolyn needs one. Callie and Carrie are pretty common, and you might be able to use Lee, Cara, Olive (?), or Rilla.

Only Caroline, ever. Carolyn is a woman from the 50's, and -lyn is such a tacky ending.

Although I like the sound of Carolyn. I just don't like the look. Caroline is very strong and beautiful. My favorite nn for it is Caddie, but Callie is alright and I'm starting to like Caro/Carro. There's also Carrie. I'm not a big fan of Carly.

And I only like Caroline pronounced with a long I (CARE-uh-line). My sister Caroline's pet peeve is when people pronounce her name like Carolyn.

I prefer Caroline. It is more aesthetically pleasing. I dislike Carolyn because it seems more trendy instead of classic. I think the Y spelling is actually a bit dated anyway. I don't like any of the nicknames for those names. The only other I can think of right now is Carrie.

I strongly prefer Caroline. I like the look of it better, plus it has a timeless/classic feel, whereas Carolyn feels/looks dated.

Another vote for Caroline. I don't mind the sound of Carolyn, but it is a bit seventies.

I prefer Caroline. It's less trendy looking than Carolyn and I like the line pronunciation better than linn. Carly is a cute nn, though.

Are you pronouncing them the same?
I would say "Caroline" as Carol-line, and 'Carolyn' as Carol-lyn.

Caroline is gorgeous, timeless, elegant. I love the nns Carrie, Cara, Caro and I can live with the nn Carly. Caroline is the kind of name that will still look fresh on a high school graduation announcement 19 years from now. :-)

I love Carolyn. It's retro but very pretty and model Carolyn Murphy gives it some class. I think it's much nicer sounding than Caroline and less common.

Carolyn has a dated feel to it, while Caroline doesn't. Caroline is more classic. And I guess I just prefer the sound of the last syllable of Caroline to the sound of the last syllable of Carolyn.
