It's an interesting name.
Short? That, I think, would depend on the last name. My own (married name) is a 4-syllable one, riddled with "a"s, would be o.k. there.
Too bird? I hadn't thought of that, but it's worth considering. However, I see a "Jay"-type guy letting any teasing roll off his back (feathers?) so it's no fun to tease him.
