Ugh I so wish my name wasn't Emma. Everyone's image of Emma is of some little elegant english girl and I am rather tall and forthright and stompy. You seem to have plenty of feedback (I haven't read the responses) so I will say this, which would be irrelevant if you aren't naming anyone: I would really dislike having many of these names. I would be okay with Violet, Rebecca, Scarlet, and Serafina, though those are pushing it; the rest I would be immensely resentful of. Who the hell did my parents think I was going to be? I would think, and glower.
They named me Emma Tippins, for chrissake. Who the hell did they think I was going to be? Any expectations they had for me based on my name I vehemently defied as soon as I got old enough to sin. Luckily I don't think they actually had any solid expectations, but still I can't help being the eensiest bit resentful that I, as a namenerd, chafe so strongly against the image my name presents. So what I'm saying is: don't name your kid any of these names if you want her to be cool. :)tongue in cheek righteous indignation, emma tippins

Is there any particular reason why your parents named you Emma, or did they just like the name? Obviously, you don't care for it (heh-heh), and it's not one of my favorite names, but I don't think it's THAT bad. You don't have to answer if you don't want to, I was just curious. :)

They just dug it and didn't know anyone named Emma. I have at times whined at them about it and they have said "oh obviously it's because we hate you right" and then "well it's a great name everyone has good taste" and ignored me.I really don't think it's that bad either, and before it shot into popularity I wasn't really aware of the little-girl delicate image everyone had of it. I like E a lot and I like the two M's and I like how random it is. But jeez I'm completely not an Emma at all.

HmmI don't have a delicate little girl image of it at all. I think it's a strong name.

LOLThe only Emma I know is also pretty far from delicate. she is tall and willowy and British, but has a mouth on her that could make a sailor blush and the most bizarre sense of humour. I'm not sure what I thought of the name before I met her (other than thinking it did seem very "British") but now I think of it as being loud, quirky, sharp-tongued and hilarious.

Emma Rose: I can only imagine how many girls have been named Emma Rose recently. There are probably hundreds of them.
Emma Evangeline: yeah, there are too many Es.
Emma Rebecca: too repetitive--the both end with a sharp a and have double constonants.
Emma Violet: it's very sweet and gentle.
Emma Scarlet: I'm not the biggest fan of Scarlet to begin with, so no.
Emma Isabel: the a and the i don't really mesh together.
Emma Felciity: very interesting!
Emma Serena: see Rebecca about the double a sounds.
Emma Lucia: kind of like Emma Serena and Emma Rebecca, but not as bad.
Emma Grace: see Emma Rose
Emma Rosalie: better than Emma Rose! It's very pretty.
Emma Serafina: interesting and sophisticated.

I can't help liking Emma too, despite popularity. I love the combo Emma Violet-beautiful! Emma Grace is always pretty and Emma Scarlet is cute too.

Please not Emma Rose or Emma Grace, those are most generic combos ever! I think it makes sense to match a popular name with a more unusual mn. I like Violet, Felicity, Lucia and Serafina best as mns.

I like it. It's a bit of a guilty pleasure because it's so popular, but it's so nice and sweet. Emma Rose and Emma Grace should be kept far away, because with Emma's popularity and Rose and Grace's fillerishness, it just won't work.

Oh I hate it. I'm sorry, probably not what you wanted to hear ;) It's one of the names I dislike the most. I think it doesn't sound elegant or graceful, it has a very heavy, dull sound.I like Evangeline, Violet, Scarlet, Serena, Grace and Serafina (prefer Seraphina), but I think Emma ruins them all.Yeah it's the number one baby name so she'd probably have two others in all of her classes. Though when you combine spellings the number one name is actually Sophia. Still it's very common.
