It's a valid Danish shortened form of Michaela.

It's pronounced as Mikala, which is also a valid way of spelling it here.

I suddenly thought of it today, reading the name of a Danish celebrity, and I suddenly started to like it. Even if I've never cared much for any names related to Michaela. But I guess that the spellings Michala / Mikala, makes it more bearable to me.

If you spell it this way, 99% of American people will most likely think that you are a Kree-Ay-tiv speller. In my book, Michaela is much nicer. However, given the choice between Mikala and Michala, I'd take the latter.

Mikala is lovely! I prefer the K spelling. I'm still not sure how it's pronounced though. MEE-ka-la, mee-KA-la ... ?

I prefer the traditional spelling of Michaela.

I only like this name spelled Michaela. Other spellings generally remind me of trendy spellings often used in the US (McKayla, Mikaila, etc). Also, I will likely use Michaela as a mn to honor Michael (a family name) and other spellings seem to stray too far from my intent.

I like Michala a lot better than Mikala but I still like Michaela better!

I used to really love the name but now it does nothing for me. To me it has lost it's appeal. However I can understand you liking it as it used to have that effect on me.

I prefer McKayla. :) Michala looks too much like Michael and I can't stand that name (no offence to any Michaels out there)
