[Opinions] That would be ammunition for a whole lot of bullying...
The nn Sappho will most likely cause a whole lot of bullying once she gets older. Sappho is/was after all the poet to write about lesbian love (try to google her or the word sapphic)...
I can just imagine young teenagers saying "Soo, are you a LESBIAN?!" in a taunting manner - and that would just be cruel; no one should endure that (no matter their sexual preferences)!

I don't know, I never learn who Sappho was in any of my years of public schooling. I hardly think of it as THE byword for lesbianism, it's not like you're naming the kid "Sapphire, nicknamed Dyke" or anything like that. Plus, with the name Sapphire, "Sappho" might be an accidental use of her name anyways, the way kids play with the sounds of each other's names (like Jacko, Mikey, Jeffy, Carlo, etc). So the whole "Sappho means lesbian" thing might come up anyways. Just sayin.
