Molly is a nickname for Mary because the Anglo-Saxons couldn't say Rs very well so they changed them to other letters for nicknames. Polly comes from Molly because in the Middle Ages they just switched random consonants around for nicknames (same reason Peg can be a nn for Margaret, etc.).
