[Opinions] Andrew
Andrew has really been appealing to me lately - I also like the nn Andy.I wonder though - I've only ever met one Andrew and he went by Drew, and I know of another Andrew, who also goes by Drew. I have one cousin with the mn Andrew. I find the popularity (#12 in 2008) hard to believe.I'm wondering:
1. Do you like the name Andrew?
2. How many Andrews do you know? Do they go by a nn?
3. What area are you in?Thanks!

Yes. Andy and Drew. Just those two. SW Iowa. I don't believe 12. Seems too popular.

1. Do you like the name Andrew?
I used to, enough to very seriously consider it for my son. Now, though, I find it a tad dull. It's okay, not something I'd really use, but not something I mind hearing on someone else's kid.2. How many Andrews do you know? Do they go by a nn?
I have met countless Andrews, from five years old to 50. Most were Andrew, one Drew. Last year I was visiting one of the kindergarten classes and my kids school, and in that one class (of 15 students, mind you) there were no less than THREE Andrews. One was spelled Andru. Very popular name.3. What area are you in?
Texas.

1. I do like Andrew. I'd probably like it more if it was less common. 2. I know quite a few Andrews of all ages. My uncle is Andrew(his wife calls him Andy)and so is his son and grandson. It gets confusing. My great-uncle and great-great uncle were Andrew as well. Other than that I worked with a woman who's son was Andrew, I know an Andrew in his early 20s and my brother was in school with an Andrew(Drew). 3. I live in Ireland. My uncle is from Dublin.

1. I like Andrew. It's not a favourite, but it's a nice enough name.
2. I've probably known over 100 Andrews! - if not more, but they're all over 20, and it's not in our recent top 100s. Andy is the most popular nn here, but most of the Andrews I've known have preferred to use the full version.
3. In the UK.

1. I like it! It's never been a favorite, but it's a good name.2. Hmm...2 Andys, 2 Drews, & 1 Andrew (average age of about 13) I know I've probably run across more than that, but those are the ones in my general acquaintance. 3. I'm in the mid-northwest USA :)

1. The name Andrew is all right, but not one of my favourites. I don't get overly excited when I hear it, but it is a nice, very kind and humble-yet-dignified sounding name2. I know one Andrew. He does not go by a nickname, he will not allow it! :) He's 25.3. I'm in Canada. Manitoba.

1. I've always thought it was nice, but I don't love it.
2. I've known a ton around my age (early-mid 20s)-- too many to count. I can't believe you've only met one! Most of them didn't go by a nickname, but a few I've known have gone by Andy and a few by Drew.

Whoa!I used to live in Traverse City. :-D But I moved down to Kalamazoo in August to go back to school. I'm actually from Alpena, though. It's not a very popular city to lay claim to. :-P

I know two Andrews. One is my nephew and the other is my son-in-law.My nephew doesn't have a nickname. He is always called Andrew. My son-in-law's nickname is Drew. His friends call him that. He despises Andy. Recently a new acquaintance was calling him Andy in a joking way, and I had to warn him to cease and desist, because it will make my son-in-law angry. My daughter, however, always calls him Andrew and never Drew. I picked it up from her and I always call him Andrew. He doesn't object to being called by his full name, he just objects to Andy.I live in South Carolina and so does my son-in-law. My nephew lives in Georgia, although his parents, my brother and sister-in-law, are originally from New Jersey. My son-in-law's parents are also originally from the North, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.I like the name Andrew, although I concur with my son-in-law that I don't like Andy. The possible nickname Andy is one reason that I wouldn't use Andrew. The other reasons are its popularity. Even though I've only known two Andrews, there have to be a lot more out there. Because of its popularity, it is a little boring.
