[Opinions] Theo
How do you feel about the name Theo for a girl (as a nickname for Theodora; the full name would be Theodora Catherine)? Scale from 1-10? I am currently taken with it.I do not care for Thea (at least, not the English pronunciation), but I am curious to know opinions on Theo.Do you prefer Theo or Teddy (this spelling only)?

I used to know a female Theo. It suited her. I'd prefer it to Teddy, but I think that could work too on the right person.

For a girl, I think Theo is much cooler than Teddy. The name Teddy on a girl only makes me think of lacy lingerie. Girl-Theo seems very cosmopolitan, sharp and brisk. What about Dora as a nickname?

I have an aversion to Dora. Somewhere in my life someone introduced me to the expression "Dumb Dora" and it sort of marred any chance for becoming Theodora-worthy.

Lol, "Dumb Dora" was a term used in vaudeville. Generally, a husband and wife team would do an act and the wife was almost always the "Dumb Dora", a dumb character that would play to the husband's straight-man character. Dumb Doras were generally the secondary characters in the skit, the spotlight falling on the suffering husband, who would then receive sympathetic laughs from the audience. Except for Gracie Allen, whose Dumb Dora character outshone her husband, because she was so dumb yet made sense on a very technical level. Portland Hoffa was another who garnered a lot of attention, but her husband was still the bigger star of the two.< / useless knowledge >Sorry! That said, I'm not liking Theo much as a nickname of Theodora, but I do like Dori and Téa, the latter a bit more. Is Téa an option?

Ah, I see. I sort of have a similar thing with Nancy. I have a friend who always says "Don't be a Negative Nancy" - so now I think of Nancy as a contrary, pessimistic name :)

You could always reply with "I'm being a Realistic Rita."

LOL, I'll try that on him!

Wouldn't that be the funniest screenname for ME on here (or one of the less romantic namers) lol

Totally! At the very least, you should add "BtN's Realistic Rita" to your signature! ;)

ahaha that's from Match Game!Gene Rayburn: Dumb Dora was so dumb...
Audience: How dumb was she?
Gene Rayburn: Dumb Dora was so dumb, she thought Camelot was a place you parked your blank.

I like it. I'll say an 8. Did you consider Dora?

Theo and Teddy are all boy for me. They would make wonderful nicknames for Theodore. But for Theadora... I would personally stick with Thea or Dora.

I have heard Theo used as a nickname for Theodora, but I prefer Theo for a boy. It still works for a girl though. As for whether I prefer Theo or Teddy, I definitely prefer Theo. Teddy seems too masculine for a girl.
