If you had to choose between these two names, which would you pick?

I'm sorry, I have to say I don't like either of them but if I really HAD to pick one it would be Agnes. Can't say why.

Me too! It's got that warm woolly feeling to it that I love so. Agatha is more elegant, but... agh, I just can't decide which is nicer! :)

I used to hate both - I considered them both "old-lady names" - but now I've sort of warmed up to them, especially Agatha. So Agatha is my choice. :)

They are definitely "old lady" names, which is right up my alley! I've been revisiting my opinion on names I thought were TOO "old-ladyish"; Agnes, Agatha, Harriet, etc.

I adore both of them. Agnes is a family name for me, and Agatha is just lovely, IMO.

If I had to pick, I'd say Agatha because I prefer the English pronunciation of Agatha to that of Agnes.

(First association: Agatha Christie, by the way ;-))

I'm so glad to see them getting some love! I've never met either an Agnes or an Agatha. Agnes is sort of a family name for me too - it's the name of the farthest ancestor I can trace my family tree back to, Marie Agnés.

Well, I meant it jokingly. When I was little, our school had a cardboard cutout for Halloween-a witch-and we named her Agatha. So it's always been a witchy type of name to me.

I don't like either, personally, but if HAD to choose it'd have to be Agatha.

Agnes was such a common name when i lived in Scotland, also mums called Agnes naming their babies Senga (reverse of Agnes) which i thought was even worse!

I like both of them. Agnes is a family name for me, and it's wonderfully medieval and yet somehow fresh and interesting. But I think I might like Agatha just a bit better.

I agree with you wholeheartedly, Agnes has a wonderful duality of ancientness and modernity. Agatha seems more polished somehow... ooh, I just can't choose! :)

I really don't like either of them to be quite honest. If i had to choose I would choose Agatha. I think both would make better middle names though. :)
