[Opinions] wdyt of Joyce...
On a boy. It is an honouring name that one of my children will have as a middle name no matter what - it is very important to me. I'm starting to think I like it better on a boy and I believe it was originally a masculine name and there is also the masculine connection in James Joyce. So no critiques of the name itself please, but rather if you think it would be appropriate on a boy as a middle name. E.g. Oliver Joyce LN or Oliver William Joyce LNTa :)

Well I intend to give a future DD the name Joyce for her first mn, as we're planning on using two mns. My maternal grandmother has the mn Joyce and DH and I thought it would be lovely to honour her by using it. Personally I don't like it for a boy at all, sorry.

I like it better on a girl. Might be fine as a middle name on a boy.

I don't think it works for a boy. Too feminine.

I personally see Joyce as very much feminine, despite it's origins. I think that any boy with that as a middle name would be teased if anyone ever found out, kids can be very cruel. Also consider how might the child feel about having a feminine middle name? I know it's okay for girls to be masculine but not vice versa. That said, Oliver Joyce is a very cool combo, and I love it (but I'm not a fan of William). I'm just not sure how well it would go down.

I actually really like it as a male MN. It's not a very popular girl's name these days, and yes, the James Joyce connection is a good masculine connotation. It's a cute name, and I personally find the combo Oliver Joyce adorable and very masculine! Besides, if it caused him any trouble, it is in the MN slot after all, and he can call himself Oliver J. LN or simply leave out his middle name altogether.

Oliver William Joyce sounds good to me; and I don't find it a particularly feminine name, like most lnfns. Since it is a familiar surname, I can't see any problem arising.

I think it makes an awesome middle name for a boy. It's very stately. I really like it!
