[Surname] surname Dana
Could anyone explain me the origin of this american surname which is quite popular in USA. Not to confuse with the italian-amerucan suraname Danna that means "Son of Anna" (Ann):Thanks in advance

Dana is an alteration of Dawney as you can see at http://tr.im/Bkgt. Dawney is an alteration of d'Aunay 'from Aunay', the name of many places in France.
