Assuming you live in the United States, it's very popular on both genders (#76 for boys, #126 for girls), even if it's not popular in your area.
I really prefer it on a boy, like all the other -ayden names and I'm pretty sure most, if not all, of it's popularity is due to Hayden Panettiere (just hearing her name and knowing it's on a woman, even if the parents aren't fans).
I can't imagine anyone will make too big a deal out of it regardless of the gender it's placed on. This one is pretty androgynous, and we seem to be living in a time where many people think it's better to give girls boy names.
