[Opinions] Alexa
What do you think of Alexa for a girl? Would it work as a full name or do you see it as a nickname for Alexandra or Alexandria only?It seems like the Alex-names are declining in popularity for girls while they're rising for boys. Do you think Alexa will continue to fall? Do you see it as slightly 80s/early 90s dated? Do you know anyone named Alexa? Do they go by their full name or by a nickname (Lex, Alex, Lexi etc)? Is it too common? What kind of person do you imagine with the name?Do you prefer Alexandra, Alexandria or Alexis? Which one is best and why?

Alexa isn't a particular favourite of mine but I think it's okay, and it works fine as a full name. The only Alexa I've ever met was someone I worked with who'd be in her late forties now, so I don't see it as an 80s or dated name at all. She always went by her full name. I also knew an Alexia, who was Greek-American.Alexandria's too frilly for me and Alexandra's quite nice, but also a bit long. Alexis as a girl's name I just can't take seriously - it reminds me of Dynasty and sounds way too trendy.

I really like Alexa, i think it is the most feminine of all those Alex- names and it is well known but not overused.
I know a little 3 years ol Alexa so it isnt dated for me at all. Oh, and the Alexa i know is simply called Alexa all the time so no NNs.Now to the oter Alex-names:
Alexandra: Lots of NN-potential but its really well used so there will probably always a few other Alexandras around her.Alexandria: Place name but more remarkable then AlexandraAlexis: Love it! But it is really popular right now

I know an Alexa in her fifties! She has never gone by any nickname at all.Alexandria is geographical and longer than it needs to be; Alexis to me will always be masculine; and Alexandra has a good tradition and lots of options for shortening ... if Sandra feels old, go for Alexa or Sandy or Lexie or Xan.

Well, Aleksa (and Alexis) is a male name here, so I prefer Alexandra or Alexandria as a full name.

I don't really like it, but I do find it to be the least annoying of the frilly Alex-esque nicknames. I wouldn't mind hearing it as a nickname for Alexandr(i)a.I would have to agree that the Alex on girls trend is on the decline finally. But not on the rise for boys. Alex for boys has been steadily popular for boys for quite a while. I see Alex-y names for girls as dated to the 90s, but not terribly so.I don't know any Alexas, but I did go to high school with a Lexi (not sure if it was a nn or not) and know an Alexi and an Alexis around my age. Other than that I've never met any girls with Alex-type names.Alexa seems a little more grounded, sophisticated, intelligent, etc. than Lexi, Alexi, etc. They seem froofy and ditzy to me. I do, however, love Alex as a nn on a girl and always have.I prefer Alexandra out of those. I love Alexandra. It's so strong and classic, but pretty. Alexandria is too place-namey for me, and Alexis is too masculine.

Well, I think it's on the rise for boys because Alexander has entered the top 10 for the first time and I see it rising further, maybe even to the number 1 spot.

I like all the Alex- names for girls. I think Alexa stands alone fine. I know of one girl called Alex, she is in my daughters class, and i know several Lexi's , but none of the other variations. My first choice of these names is Alexandra, close second is Alexa. I dont really have an image for this name, mostly because I've never known anyone with it.

Alexandra is gorgeous and timeless. Alexa is classic, but has a much more trendy feeling to me. I was tired of it in 1983.Alexis is all boy to me.As for popularity, I can't say. I have noticed Alexandra and other female variants getting less attention than Alexander. I'm surprised Alexander is still so popular. It's like the housing bubble -- I keep waiting for it to burst. So yeah, I guess I do see Alexa / Alexandra declining in popularity over time. Alexandra stands the best chance of still sounding fresh years from now.
