Help[Opinions] Rocky or..Roche???
Latest developements in the nameing of Chilli's little sister, yes sister, who is due in January. They'd decided on Rockey Bell, but it looks like they've changed their minds. The dad had a question posted on his facebook asking everyone if they thought they should spell her name Rocky Bel or Roche Belle. Said exactly the same- they are pronouncing Roche exactly like Rocky- which makes absolutley no sense to me but there you go. I did reply, suggesting Rochelle nn Rocky. I don't think it's going to fly unfortunatly.
He got a bunch of replies, some suggesting other possible spellings as well. Included amongst those were suggestions of Rockie, Rockei, Rochi, Rochey and Rockeigh *head desk*
So WDYT of Roche as opposed to Rocky? If you had to use Rocky, how would you spell it?

If I had to use the name Rocky, I would spell it as that. Roche is just dumb. It looks like it should be pronounced like "roach".

I like Roche,but pronounced the way it's supposed to be.... if they are pronouncing it "Rocky", then I'd say stick with Rockey. At least there will be no mispronunciations, just misspellings. My gosh, what a kerfuffle... very interested to see how this one turns out!

If I had to use Rocky I would spell it just like that because that's...uhm...they way it is spelt. ;)
Roche is horrible and how many will get that the name is supposed to be pronounced like Rocky? The poor girl will correct people her whole life. I do admit that Roche is more feminine-looking than Rocky, but I just can't see how Roche and Rocky are the same name.

Roche is just plain stupid. The kids are going to think it's "roach" when they see it spelled out.
If they're going to go with an unconventional name, they really don't need to change the spelling. She'll already be the ONLY Rocky in her class. No need to make the girl stand out any more.

When I read the title I thought "Yippee! Roche really is an improvement". As Pie pointed out, it actually is a (rare) name in France and it sounds less masculine than Rocky, at least to me it does.
Then I kept on reading... and I must admit I don't understand how one gets the pronunciation "Rocky" out of Roche.... hmmmm...
There's no chance they'll be considering Rochelle, right?
Or even Rocca?
If I really had to use Rocky and if I had to use it on a girl I'd probably spell it Rockie... :/

If I really really had to, I'd go with Rocky because it's less confusing, but it is very horrible!
Roche (pr. as you would expect, Rosh) is actually used as a female name in France, although very rare. But his pronunciation makes no sense at all. Rochi would be easier, but not much. Have you tried him with Roksana or Rocca (female form of Rocco, also quite rare)?
