[Opinions] Virginia?
I have always liked this name but I can't imagine naming one of my kids that (in the future). Is it too... I don't know... left-of-centre for a little girl?

I like it in theory, but it's just not a favorite for some reason. I also don't care for the "virgin" in it, which I feel would be teasing fodder for a girl with the name in her teens. :(

I like it. It's my mom's name, and her siblings call her Gina (prn. Ginna rather than Gee-na).
Virginia is an okay name, but I would only name my kid that if I had a close tie to the state of Virginia in the United States. It is a classic, and Ginny is a great nickname for it.

No, absolutely not. It's a classic and the name of a US state, for heaven's sake. Is the Virgin Mary "left-of-centre"? I see your point about possible teasing, but .. well, I'm one of those people who believes a name will be teased only if the kid is teasable, and if the kid is teasable, his/her name will be teased even if it's John or Cathy. There are worse things to be named for.
I can imagine using it, because it's my DH's grandmother's name (she's still alive, barely). And I love the nn Virgie. I can totally picture it on a little girl.
Then again, maybe I just am not sensitive about the idea of virginity. I'm also a fan of the name Virgil for a boy. I get enough flak, though, when I bring it up, I probably would not use it. Just the partial soundalike seems to be too much for people if it is a boy name.
