[Opinions] Joanna?
WDYTO Joanna? I was watching Sweeney Todd (the name probably doesn't have the best association!) the other day and the name has been on my mind ever since. I believe in the movie it's spelled with a 'h' though (to me, it's the same)

I really like it a lot; can't say I like either Joan or Jo-Anne (and variants) though. Here in South Africa Johanna is still popular though dated among Afrikaans speakers and is pronounced you HAH nah. Not a fave!

Joanna is nice, but I prefer romantic Johanna or sleek Joan more.

I like it and think it's pretty, but I have good associations with it - it's my mother's name. She spells it Joanna, but was named after a Johanna (pronounced the same).

I think it's pretty and elegant. I think in the musical it's spelled with an h too, but I'd pronounce Johanna like Jo+Hanna. For the pronunciation Jo+Anna, I like it just how you've spelled it.There's nothing wrong with the character in Sweeney Todd, and I doubt most people would associate that name with that musical anyway.

Agree with Llewella, completely.

I think it's pretty and underused. I used to know a Joanna growing up and she always went by Joanna, not Jo or Anna or any other nickname. A good thing about Joanna is that if you want to use a nickname for it, there are several different options, but you don't necessarily need to use one because Joanna isn't that long and complicated of a name. I prefer Joanna without a nickname, but I think that Annie is a nice nickname for it.

i like it. I don't like Joanne, but Joanna is pretty. The only thing i dislike is the nn Jo, which it will undoubtedly be shortened to.

I don't mind it. I'm not a huge fan of 'Jo' names on girls, but I love Anna. :)

I see Joanne as quite dated, so I put Joanna in that category as well, not so much Johanna (which makes me think of Heidi.) However I do know a few young (three in their early 20s, one mid-teens) Joannas and Jos. I prefer Josephine on the whole.

I quite like it. I associate it with actress Joanna Lumley.
It's a tad dated at the moment; the youngest Joanna I know is one of a 20-something sibset, Joanna and Alexandra.
