[Opinions] Clemency and Clelia?
Are these two still usable? Or rather hopelessly old-fashioned?
I always liked Clelia and Clemency is a new "discovery" of mine but seeing the comments it got in its comment section... Hmmm.

Rather Clemency than Clelia! The original Clelia was .... not a role model, and though most people won't know that, they will know about Chloe and Celia, and assume that either you can't spell or you've created a hybrid.
Clemency is one of the better virtues, and therefore one of the better virtue names. I know a gloomy Joy, a grimly determined Joy, an agnostic Faith who goes by Fay and a Jewish Christine ... but Clemency is really something the world needs and everyone can aspire to showing. Plus, unlike Clementine, it doesn't come with a song!

I think Clemency is cool but not useable as a first name, I've considered it as a MN before though. I've never heard of Clelia before but I think it comes under the same category.
I'm not familiar with Clelia, but it has a pretty sound. I think Clemency is adorable! I've been noticing Clémence and Clemency lately and have really started liking them more, and I've always thought Clementine was cute. Which is funny because I can't stand Clement.
I think either name would work just fine to be used now.

No...I once encountered a Clement.
If there can be a young Clement, Clemency is perfectly fine...especially since the French LOVE forms of Clement. You are German, no?

Yep, I'm German.
They're both so unusual that old-fashioned doesn't really seem to apply. I like Clemency - it's got a sweet sound and a nice meaning. (I like Clement too, but I seem to be in a small minority there). Not so sure about Clelia - the two 'l's look awkward to me somehow, but I think I could warm up to it.
Thanks! :-)
Hmmm, I got the "old-fashioned" apropos Clemency from the comments section ;-) And Clelia is considered "old" where I live; everyone rather goes with Celia nowadays (not that Clelia ever was super common but you know...)
I like Clemency for its sound and its meaning. Actually, I never thought about it all that much until I found Clémencie on this site about old Quebecois names; I'm not sure, though, how I feel about Clémencie itself. (I like Clement, too, by the way).
I love the second -l in Clelia. Too me, this name is a feminine as Celia but less smooth and sweet (what's the opposite of that? Salty? Edgy? ;-)), less "girly" and I really like that right now.

Clemency is very usable to me, but Clelia sounds a bit like a disease.

Ah, thanks!
So after all, Clemency does rather well ;-)

I don't particularly like either one of them. I agree that Clelia sounds clunky, like a misspelling of Celia. I prefer Clement or Clemence to Clemency.
Thanks for the input :-)
Neato!
I like 'em. They have that great balance of history and freshness that I love so much. I think they are totally usable.
Sometimes the comments section is full of rubbish. There's one person in particular who apparently signed up, went to trash her most-hated names on the site, left a nasty note on her profile, and then left forever. So they're full of wackos.

I've noticed that one person too. I've most certainly noticed the nasty comments as well. :/

Thanks!
I really seem to have a thing for old, rare and unusual names at the moment, I'm just not sure if they are over the top or perfectly fine (I daren't even ask for opinions on my latest fancies, lol)
Yeah, I noticed that one person, too, but it never occured to me to check his or her profile.... Strange.
(By the way, I checked for the "names of the days of the week as a second middle name country" - I think you are right, it should be Ghana :-) )

Off topic but ...

Well ok, "wacko" isn't a nice term to use. But that's honestly what this person did. I've yet to find a nice comment from them! They came here with some kind of agenda of criticism....
Clemency sounds like the name of a hotel: "Come stay at the glamorous Clemency Hotel!"
Clelia just sounds awkward. I'm afraid I don't care for either name.

Oy, it never occured to me that Clemency could sound like the name of a hotel. That comment actually made me laugh :-)
