[Opinions] Gary
I've had this name on my mind recently, it's growing on me. WDYT? Is it dated?

I wouldn't expect to see a young one at all. And although it's in our family, I've never liked it much. I'd always prefer Gareth, or even Garrett, with Gary as a nn if you need one.

I don't think I would have liked Gary even when it was fashionable. I looked at the year Gary peaked, 1952 and saw what other names were popular then. I think I would have much prefered Dennis or Mark over Gary. Therefore, I don't think whether or not the name is dated is relevant, I just don't like it.

Yes, it's dated, but other than that, there is nothing wrong with it. It's a nice name. Speaking as one who has a dated name myself, and seen the way it's sometimes harshly judged for that reason and no other, I speak up for Gary. There's no reason not to use it.

I'm not a fan. It's one of those names that I've never liked and have wondered why it was ever used. And that was harsh. lol. Sorry.EDIT: Plus that stupid song that goes "Gary, Indiana, Indiana, Indiana..." or whatever gets stuck in my head whenever I hear "Gary".

In a bit of a roundabout way, the city in Indiana is what inspired the use of Gary as a personal name. Gary's use as a name for baby boys was inspired solely by the film star Gary Cooper, which was not his real name. He took the name Gary from the city.

It was very popular here in the 60s and 70s, so it seems really dated to me - I think of people like Gary Oldman and Gary Numan. But it does have a fairly long history of use, and I think it's okay, and could stand a revival.

Ooh...I like.Very nerdy.
This is the name of my cousin's boyfriend/fiance. I think it's so cool...he may be a little cooler, but most of the time he lives up to the association...apparently when he was in school he blew something up in science class a couple times a year.

Yeah, I really can't imagine a child named Gary. I've known 1 person my own age by this name, but never anyone younger. It has always come off to me as very dorky for some reason.

Pretty datedFor me Gary is one of those names in the fashion limbo. I bet it'll be awesome in a generation or two.
