I think you will definitely get some trip-ups over pronunciation if you prefer "uh-may-uh". I immediately read it as "ah-MY-ah".
It is a beautiful name, but I think I prefer the original Basque spelling of Amaia. the spelling of Amaya also reminds me of "papaya" - which isn't bad at all, but distracting for me :)
I absolutely adore the meaning of "the end" that it has. So very poetic and powerful!
