[Opinions] Celebrity baby BA + ETA
Model Adriana Lima and her husband, NBA star Marko Jaric welcomed a daughter, named Valentina Lima Jaric, on Sunday, November 15th in New York City.
- I like Valentina, and think they did a good job of finding a name that would work in Portuguese, Serbian and English (not an easy job). Not sure if Lima is a middle name or if it's a second last name, since in Serbia there are no middle names and in Brazil they have a middle name and both parents' last names.
Flight of the Conchords star Bret McKenzie is a first-time dad. The 33-year-old singer and actor welcomed daughter Vita with wife Hannah three months ago.
This is not a BA, but the name is so great I had to add it:
Bret’s Flight of the Conchords costar Jemaine Clement and wife Miranda Manasiadis have a son, Sophocles Iraia (1).

Dude I love both Brett and Jemaine in a celebratory and distinct manner, but I love Jemaine more, and their choices in baby names exhibit exactly why and how
I like Sophocles a lot. I dislike Iraia. I love Valentina but I dislike Vita. It means life, doesn't it? I think it's waaaaaaaay too obvious.
You look at it and see "life". It's almost like using the English word. So I don't like it, it just jumps at you. Eve would have been so much nicer. I know a dog named Vita and another one named Bella (beautiful life), they both belong to a friend. I don't know but I see Vita on everything. Dog food, vitamins etc etc I would hate to have that name. It has a beautiful meaning but it's an ugly name.

I agree about Sophocles
I wouldn't want to go through life with that name. Pretentious beyond belief.

are you familiar with The Flying Conchords?
They are so goofy and offbeat that the name Sophocles does not come off as trying too hard at all. If it was the son of a pair of professors, I would agree... but with these guys it is just hilarious and awesome. :)
I highly recommend "Alby the Racist Dragon" for your YouTube viewing pleasure; it remains my favourite Conchord ditty. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-jVAHAuiS4

do you mean Flight of the Concords?!
From New Zealand? lol, if that's them, they're lol!!
Maybe you're right, but i don't know, this is a child's name, it's not something i would think lightly about, since it's a name the kid will have to live with. Imagine if he grew up to be a professor himself! I just don't think they thought it through, it may be funny right now but, meh, it's their child i guess!

yes I did mean them
and I am not sure what my brain did that it came up with "The Flying Conchords" Mmm, delicious flying grapes. Also makes them sound like a fantastic trapeze family! Wheee.

His wife has a Greek last name, so I guess it's a family name. And Greek are big on honoring names.
Sophocles / Sofoklis seems to be used quite a bit in modern Greece as a first name, though not very common, so maybe it's a family name for Mrs Jemaine. Iraia seems to be Basque though, so maybe they just like unusual names.
I will never get over the badassery of a son named Sophocles.
Ohhh I love Emily Valentina (hate hyphens, though). I also love Emily Valentine. You know, I watched reruns of Beverly Hills 90210 on TV when I was about 12 and there was a character named Emily Valentine. I disliked the character but the name is just so neat. It was a first name/last name combo but I like it as a first name/middle name combo. It's just so sweet.
Ditto on Sophocles!
How philosophical!
