1. I can't say I'm really a fan of it (no pun intended :), but that is mostly because I have heard "fanny" refer to a rear-end more than I have heard it used as a name. If this reference isn't common where you live, then I would say go for it! And I like the idea of using it as a nickname, so that if the child is made fun of she can choose to go with her more formal name.
2. Faina, Fantine, Faustine*, Fern*, Finola, Fiona*, Flannery, Francesca, Vanessa*
(the starred ones are kind of a stretch, but I am a big fan of more extrapolated nicknames)
3. Coral, Harper, Harriet, Cecile, Ivah, Margot for girls,
Alexander, Henry, Kieran or Howard for boys.
