Lucy is excellent for all ages; when I think of it, I see a dancer.
When I think of Lux, I see a bar of white soap. Sorry.
If you can create a character called Lux who doesn't bubble when wet, you can do anything. Go for it!

1.) Which name do you prefer and why?
- I much prefer Lucy and it's always been a fave name of mine. I find it to be classic and pretty and it suits a female of any age imo.
2.) What sort of person do you think of when you hear the name Lucy?
- I always think of comedian Lucille Ball! She is always the first person that comes to mind. I think a Lucy would be sweet, fun, funny and caring.
3.) What sort of person do you think of when you hear the name Lux?
- I think a girl named Lux would be into art and music. Not sure why, but that's what comes to mind.
4.) Do you think the names are too similar to be used in the same story?
- I think it might be ok, if the characters weren't related.

1. Definitely Lucy. I just don't find the sound or the spelling of Lux to be attractive (ditto with Luz).
2. Outgoing, confident, quirky, artsy, intelligent, Lucille Ball. ;-)
3. I've never known anyone with the name so it's difficult for me to imagine anyone, really. Offhand, I'd say exotic, foreign.

I don't mind either of them, but if this was something I would choose for my own use, I might go with Lucy. It's more down to earth
2.) What sort of person do you think of when you hear the name Lucy?
A nice person - I am totally unable to imagine a mean Lucy. Also perhaps a slightly naive, optimisitc, Pollyanna type of person. Also a very fair person comes to mind - if not fair in hair then very dark hair with pale, creamy skin, and large doe-like eyes.
3.) What sort of person do you think of when you hear the name Lux?
Either someone very creative, artistic and edgy with a sarcastic sense of humour, or a plain, frumpy, unsuccessful type of person. Very unusual names often give me this dual image - the idea of a total nobody loser with a strange name seems so realistic to me.
4.) Do you think the names are too similar to be used in the same story?
I don't think so, but they do definitely seem connected in some way -like two halves or sides of something. I would perhaps use it to show a contrasting or juxtaposition in characters rather than treating them as totally unrelated.

4) I think you can use both of them in a story but I wouldn't do it randomly. The resemblence should symbolize something or maybe emphasize a big contrast in personality. Like Lucy could be the good one, the heroine. Since Lux sounds "dark" to me (I know it means light but to me it looks and sounds dark), I'd use it on the bad girl.

A wholesome funny girl, who is respectful and charming. I don't have any particular physical associations because all the famous Lucys I am aware of and the ones I have met look very different.

I think of either a gothic girl or upperclass African American. I don't like it very much. In my associations it seems like parents who chose that name would have done so for the deluxe sound. She probably has a sister named Chanel or Mercedes.

1. Lucy -- though I'm not terribly fond of the name; Lux sounds masculine and I don't like the connotation with the adj 'deluxe'.

I can't really imagine it on a person.

Definitely. It would be confusing. I'd also assume that there is some symbolic reason for the similarity.

Lux is new to me. Therefore I can't really judge yet. I have to let Lux sink in. Without knowing much about Lux, I see Lux as almost more of a nickname for Lucy. But that's just my lack of familiarity with Lux. I have learned not to form impressions without learning about the name.
I do think the names are too similar to use in the same story, unless the similarity in names is meaningful to the story somehow. For example, maybe someone named their kid Lux after a relative named Lucy, then I can understand why the similarity is significant.
