I've always loved this name. Recently, I learned that the name of Benjamin's mother was Rachel, so it would be fitting to use it for a son. :) I think Ben is a "good-guy" type of name, and it gives me a warm feeling. Currently, it's popular (#25) but that really doesn't bother me. I think classic names like this will always be high on the charts.
So, WDYT? I know I'm gushing about it, but it's okay if you dislike it. What kind of impression does it give you, and what kind of combos spring to mind? Thanks!

Benjamin has always been a favourite of mine. It's traditional, smart but not snooty. I think of it as being a "good-guy" typed of name as well. I picture Bens being good looking, clever and friendly, sporty, down-to-earth etc. I like Ben as a nickname but I don't mind Benji either.

I've got three nephews: Stuart Cameron, Alexander Duncan (originally Zander but now mostly Alex) and Benjamin James. He's mostly Benjamin, but does sometimes get called Benjie. I like all the names and combos, but Benjamin James is my favourite by far. And the Benjamin Calypso from Joseph and his Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is a good song!
The combo? The nephews have got a three-syllable Scottish ln, so a single-syllable mn (James, Paul, Mark, John, Claud) works well. If the ln was Smith or Jones, then a slightly longer mn would balance better. Benjamin David? Benjamin Andrew? Benjamin Douglas? Benjamin Alastair?

I love the name Benjamin even if it's fairly common. It's classic and you can't go wrong with a tried and true name.
I've never really liked nicknames for males, but my favorite Benjamins go by their nicknames Jamie and Jamín (hah-MEEN; from the Spanish form of the name) instead of Ben/Benny.

I love Benjamin. Unfortunately it is my ex's brother's name, so using it would be weird. I always thought it was a "nice guy" name. I've known a number of nice Benjamins.

I really like Benjamin as well and I adore the nicknames Ben and Benji. I agree about the whole 'good-guy' feeling; I don't think I've ever met a Ben that I didn't like!

My brother's name!
His name is Benjamin Samuel "Ben" and I've always liked it. I think the combo really works because it's made up of 2 Biblical names but they're both so common that most people don't even realise that they are both Biblical at first. I think it's more of a "good-guy" type of name too (though Ben isn't always THAT good), and it's a name that works on someone of any age as "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" showed, lol. So yeah, I really like it; my parents had a pretty good taste in names. =)

I feel bad being a wet blanket, but I find Benjamin so, so mind-numbingly boring. It's a very popular name in my city and I know Bens of all ages. It's like Michael. It's a huge blank presence.
Because I know so many Bens, it's hard for me to give it a feeling, just like Michael. I know a wacky artistic Ben, an adorable little toddler Benjamin, a creepy, whiny, spoiled momma's-boy Ben (my cousin in fact, who is 21 ansd still whiny), an unsuccessful-emo Ben, a lawyer Benjamin, a sports-nut Ben....
The only way I could maybe get excited over another Benjamin is if he went by Benji. I love that short form and every mother-of-a-Benjamin has absolutely refused to let me call their son that. Harumph. Benji is so great in 1950's freckled-rebel sort of way, don't they see that?!

Sure, it's the name of a shaggy dog, but I always thought it was a great nickname. If I had a Ben, I'd probably call him Benji/Benjy occasionally.

It has a little mischievous, rock 'n roll side that Ben is totally lacking. Ben is a good guy's name indeed, but not in a so good way.
Apart from that, I think it is when I heard it pronounced Benyamin (which is very different from the way we say it in my language) that it started grewing on me. The name is so common that I had never paid any attention to it and that made me reconsider it somehow.

I used to think it was very boring and then I changed my mind almost overnight. And yes, it gives me a warm feeling, I would say that too. In fact I think it's cute and strong at the same time.
Oh and by the way, my name is Sarah and I made the same comment to myself about Isaac, which is one of my favourite names ever.:)

I like Benjamin but I dislike all the nicknames for it. I think it sounds sweet but also mature.

It has the same feeling for me, which is part of the reason I've always liked it. I can't give an unbiased opinion or feel totally able to make combos with it anymore, though, since it's my son's name!
