[Opinions] Ella or Ellen? (more)
If you had to choose: Ella or Ellen and why?Do you think Ellen will make a comeback? When? And how high do you see it in the charts? Top 100? Does it sound dated to you?Do you like Elle and Ellie as full names?Could you put these in an order of your preference?Ella, Ellen, Eleanor, Elle, Ellie, Elaine. You can change spellings.Oh and I noticed how Ellen never placed really high in the charts. I think its highest was number 50-something. Weird, I always thought it was really common in the 40s or 50s. Top ten or so. Hmmm weird how it still seems to sound dated to many people despite never having been really common. There are no common alternate spellings either.

I like both of them, but due to Ella being a family name, I am going with it.If you're adding in Eleanor, that is my top choice.Eleanor, Ella, Elle, Ellen, Ellie, Elaine (in order)

Ellen as i just feel it has more substance to it, Ella is very pretty though and could obviously easily be a nickname for Ellen
I feel Elle could be a given name but Ellie is strictly nickname to meIn order of favourites
Ellen
Ella
Elle
Elaine
Eleanor (though i prefer Eleanore and Eleanora)
Ellie

I think of Ellen as a dreary dropped-H name - Helen is the lovely equivalent.
I therefore much prefer Ella.
Elin, as in Mrs Tiger Woods, is fresher than Ellen.
In order of preference:
Elinor
Eleanor
Ella
Elin
Elaine (I might have put it higher, but it's so dated at present)
Elaina
Ellen
Elle (too French pronouny and Macphersonish for me)
Ellie (too nicknamey - elephant too!)

Ellen no doubt. Ella bores me, it's getting caught into the "old fashioned" trend.

EllenEllen is more sophisticated than Ella, it'll age better.Ellen doesn't seem dated to me.I prefer no nickname, or maybe Nell.Ellen, Eleanor, Elaine, Ella, Elle, Ellie

EllenI think it might make a small comback but I don't think it will go higher than 100. I don't like Elle or Ellie as full names. Ella is alright, though.Eleanor / Eleanore / Ellinor / Ellinore

EllenElla is trendy and fluffy and sounds like a nickname, Ellen is friendly and comfortable and has been in use for 1000 years or so. As someone else said, I can see Helen making a comeback but not Ellen, though I think it will always be around in a quiet sort of way.
I don't like nns as full names at all, so I'd rank them Eleanor, Ellen, Elaine, Ella, Ellie, Elle (really dislike the last one). The Welsh version is Elen, which is pretty common in Wales, but I've seen Elin used too - like both of these. I have a German cousin called Hella which I also quite like, although I don't think it's very user-friendly outside Germany.

Ellen! ♥I love, love, love Ellen! It's my all time favorite name and I've loved it for more than ten years. If I ever have a daughter her name will be Ellen (sorry future dad)
Ellen is unfortunately quite popular here. I think it was in the top 20 in 2008. 1. Ellen
2. Eleanor
3. Elle
4. Ella
5. Ellie

Ellen!
Ella is ugly and way too popular. But I love Ellen even though it's qut popular here too. I'm sure it will make a come back in the US too, but I hope it takes a while (well, I don't want my favorite names to be too popular ;))
I don't like Elle or Ellie either.
Of the names you mentioned my favorite is Ellen, and I don't really like the others but I can stand Eleanor.

Ellen. I have a good friend named Ellen and I've always found it an elegant name whereas I really can't stand Ella. It's very possible that Ellen could make a comeback in the next few years but I really don't know. I think of it as being in the top 200 somewhere I suppose, it'd be odd if it was any lower. I can see why it would sound dated but I've grown up with Ellen so it's just normal to me. I do not like Elle, Ellie or Ella as full names or as nicknames for that matter. I just really don't but I couldn't tell you why, they're just names I stay well away from.In my order of preference: Ellen, Elaine, Eleanor, Ella, Ellie, Elle.=)

I don't enjoy either of them, but either I prefer Ella or I really dislike Ellen. Sometimes it's hard to tell.I hope Ellen won't make a comeback. To me it's flat-footed and coated in a thin film of grey dust.Elle as a full name is silly, like Dee and Jay and Kay and Dorothy's Aunt Em. And then there's the glitzy magazine. No. Ellie is fine if you're grey with a trunk. And tusks.Eleanor. Elaine. Ella. And the rest nowhere. For the record, I love and would enjoy using both Eleanor and Helen; not Ellen, Helena etc. Go figure.Mrs Tiger Woods is Elyn ... I think!

I like Ellen better. I think Ella sounds like a nickname... it's sort of light and fluffy, whereas Ellen has some weight. I don't know that Ellen will make a comeback in the near future if it hasn't already. El- names are popular, and so are -en endings.I do not like Elle or Ellie as full names. I don't even like Elle as a nickname. In order of preference (used as full names):
Eleanor, Ellen, Ella, Elaine, Ellie, ElleI like Ellie quite a bit as a nickname, but not as a full name.

Ellen!Ella is wicked trendy and wimpy.I do think Ellen will be making a comeback. Maybe not right away (I can see Helen making a comeback first) but maybe in like ten or fifteen years. Eleanor, Ellen, Ellie, Elaine, Ella, Elle is my order of preference.

Between Ella and Ellen, I'd take Ella. Ellen has never really appealed to me, it sounds dated and needs some time before it is ready for a come back.
Elle and Ellie are nice nns, I do not like them as full names.Eleanor (Elinor!), Ella, Ellie, Elaine, Elle, EllenTop 50 or so is still popular enough that it would be widely known to people, which could cause it to sound dated without being over used.

- Def Ella! Ellen seems so old fashioned
- I don't think it will make much of a comeback and does sound dated to me.
- I like Elle as a full name
- Ella, Elle and the other four I dislike equally

Ella!Ella seems so much sweeter and more feminine. Ellen is clunky and, yes, dated. I do not see Ellen making a comeback, at least for quite a while. It's just... frumpy to me.Elle, yes. Ellie, no.1. Elaine
2. Elle
3. Ella
4. Eleanor
