I wouldn't use it because it isn't my style. It is too close to Sylvia, which I prefer for a girl.I don't have a negative impression though at all.

I love it. I do have associations with the looney tunes cat, but I'd use it if some other names could not be used. I'd probably use Sylvan before Sylvester, just because of Looney Tunes.

I have a neutral impression of Sylvester. I've never actually known anybody by this name, but gosh, I'd love to meet one! I think it's a great name and would consider using it, although there are lots of names that I like more than it, so unless I had like 50 kids . . .:P

Too much cat for me to take it seriously. I *like* Sylvester, but a kid with this name is bound to have problems.

More negative than positive, because it's one of those names that give a "silly" vibe. And I can't imagine it on a real person.

Positive!I was just musing about this name the other day - as in wondering, which name would be less scarring on a child, Casper or Sylvester?Sylvester has massive hipster appeal I think. I am really warming to it immensely. Yeah, it's the name of a cartoon cat - but then I am apparently all over the cartoon character names: Archie, Clifford, Waldo, Casper, I love all of those. PLUS, Felix is a cat's name, and that one is becoming cool, so why not Sylvester?I heart Sylvester, it's official. I'd totally use it.

My friends used to tease me by calling me Sylvester (my name is Sylvia)...and I always just thought it was funny. It doesn't seem like a serious name to me.

O.T.I love your beautiful Christmas card!

Sufferin' Succotash! It only makes me think of the cartoon character. I can't really say it's a specifically positive or negative image, but I don't like the sound of it on a real person.

Agree.+It's all cat to me.

I love Sylvester and the nickname Sly is a guilty pleasure. I especially love the meaning of Sylvester. I would consider it if my partner really loved it, but it's not high enough on my list to use.

I love Sylvester / Silvester -- the name's etymological connection to forests cements my fondness for the name.

I think it's great, although I prefer the spelling Silvester. I'd consider it as a middle name, especially if I was using George, which it seems to go rather nicely with.

Ooh, George Silvester is wonderful!

Negative as for using it since when I hear it I think of Stallone or the cartoon cat.

I think of Sylvester the cat and Tweety Bird in the cartoon series. It would make a grand mn, though.

Good meaning, and it would work well as a mn; however, it shortens so easily to Silly (or, as with Stallone, to Sly) that it seems best to avoid it for actual everyday use.
