[Opinions] Danica
I've always liked this name, but I'm afraid a girl named Danica would inevitably be called Danni, a nickname I loathe. Also, I'm not really a fan of NASCAR, and the Danica Patrick association might be too strong. What do you think of it? I'd still consider using it, since it has a soft, mysterious quality that appeals to me. Also, what middle names would you pair it with? Thanks!

I love Danica, I love the meaning and it shares a sound element with my husband, so it would be like honoring him. I don't know anything about NASCAR, so I don't have that association. It is the name of a coworker of my husband, not someone we particularly want to honor, so I would feel weird about actually using it. I could see myself using it as a middle name to honor hubby, but would probably use Alexandra first. And I'd probably only use it if hubby suddenly died. :(Amelie Danica

I don't like it. Because of the racecar association, it seems like a tacky name to me. But I have met a girl with this name and she pronounced it da-NEETZ-a, the Italian way. I don't really like that either, though.

That isn't the Italian pronunciation, it's the original Slavic and the way the name is supposed to be pronounced. It's also the reason why I hate it in English and can't stand Danica Patrick and the anglicized pronunciation she has popularized.

OhWell the girl I met was of Italian heritage, so I guess I just assumed. Cool though, makes me able to dislike the Danica Patrick pronunciation even more.

Glad to be helpful with that, lol.

Yeah, the tacky NASCAR association is what puts me off of it, as well. I mean, I still like the name, but I probably wouldn't use it in real life.

I quite like it - it does have a nice soft sound. Nica would be okay if you had to have an nn (I don't like Danni either).
